Marc Ainger's Windswept Premiered at National Sawdust
Professor Marc Ainger's musical work, Windswept premiered at National Sawdust in Brooklyn, NY as part of 2016s New York Philharmonic Biennial. Windswept was developed in part using the facilities in ACCAD’s Motion Capture Lab. Like much of Ainger’s work, it explores the use of the computer to transform the sounds of instruments in performance, extending the possibilities of the instruments without physically modifying them. In particular, the work plays with the ensemble’s instruments’ pitch and timbre, delaying, overlapping and displacing harmonic spectra in time and space. Windswept is also one of the works for which Marc Ainger was awarded an Individual Excellence Award in Composition from the Ohio Arts Council.
