Chris Coleman was born in West Virginia and he received his MFA from SUNY Buffalo in New York. His artwork includes sculptures, animations, creative coding and interactive installations - all focused on complex systems and how they are used for control. Professor Coleman’s work has been in exhibitions and festivals in more than 25 countries including Brazil, Argentina, Singapore, Finland, the U.A.E., Italy, Germany, South Korea, China, the UK, Latvia, and across North America. After a decade of creating and contributing to open source software tools for the arts, he created the Clinic for Open Source Arts (COSA) to support other contributors and communities. COSA was initially funded with a grant from the Knight Foundation, and has since received five grants from the National Endowment for the Arts as well as funding from the Mellon Foundation and other donors. He is faculty in the Department of Art, teaching in the Art and Technology Area.
